THE REWARD OF VALOR.

In the ' Gazette' it is notified that the awards of the Royal Humane Society of Australasia have been awarded as under :

James Montgomery, of Lcith street, Dunedin, aged fourteen years, whs rescued James Wilson, Dunedin, aged seven year.', from drowning, in Peliobet Bay Baths, Dunedin, on the 6th February, 1890. Wilson fell off the platform into a strong current, and, unable to awim, Montgomery, fully clothed, plunged in and resoned him. Award, certificate of merit. Louis Lyle, of Port Chalmers, an apprenticeengineer, aged fifteen years, who rescued James Johnson, of same plaoe, aged six years, from drowning, at the Bowen pier, on the 13th December, 1839. Award, certificate of merit. Claude Ferrier, of the Union S. S. Company, Dunedin, a mariner, aged twenty-four years, for rescuing a man from drowning, at the wharf at Wellington, on the 13th December, 1889. Award, certificate of merit. Claude Fe.rter, of the Union S.S. Company, Dunedin, a mariner, aged twenty-four years, for rescuing a man named Graham, a fireman, of the s.s. Calrntoul, aged thirty-eight years, from drowning, at Lyttelton, on the 20th May, 1893. Award, certificate of merit. Charles Rolton, of Thames, aged thirty-three years, fisherman, Joseph Cross, of tbe Bame place, aged forty-flee years, and Andrew ReitmaD, of the same place, aged twenty-three years, oil fishermen, for rescuing Captain Cameron, of tbe Maud Graham, Lyttelton, master mariner, aged about thirty years, from drowning, at the mouth of the Thames River, on the 10th December, 1890. Captain Cameron was oat sailing alone in a hard gale of wind, when his boat capsized, AwaicU, certifloatce of merit.

Harry Howard Goodwio, of Maidstone, Sent, England, an apprentice on the ship Persian Umpire, aged eighteen years; Henry Thomas, of , A.B. on ship Fersian Empire, aged thirty years; and Hemy Talbot, aged twentytwo years, third officer of the ship Persian Empire, rescued John Hutley, aged about twenty yearp, his sister Maiy Hutley, aged about fifteen yews, and Emma Eeans, aged about fifteen years, all of Auckland, from drowning in the Auckland Harbor on the 30th March, 1890. Mr J. Hutley, bis sister Mary, and Emm* Eeane went for a sail in a dingey. When in midstream near the railway wharf a sudden gust of wind capsized the dingey about thirty yards from the Pe»i*n Empire. Goodwin, Thomas, and Talbot jumped overboard to tho resoue; the two former reached and relieved Mr Hutley of the two girls, who were being carried away by a strong tide, and held them till picked up by the ferry steamer Biitannia. Mr Hutley was much exhausted. Mr Talbot was believed to have been suoked under the paddle-wheels of the Biitannia and killed, as he was a stroDg swimmer, but was never seen again. Awards, bronze medals. Thomas Francis Niohollf, of Northcote, Auckland, a seamin, aged twenty-seven years, for rescuing Charles Po.'laon, of Chelsea, Auckland, a settler, aged fifty-eight years, from drowning in the Waitemata Harbor, on the 21st April, 1890. Mr Nicholls dived after Pollson off the wharf on a dark night, with a strong ebb tide running, aud kept him afiaat about twenty minutes, until both were rescued by a boat. Award, brorz; medal. Henry Augustus Hooper, f oarth officer of tbe Talnul, aged twenty-sight yearß, for rescuing a man named Slatur from drowning, at Queen's wharf, Wellington, on the 11th May, 1891, Award, cert fieite of merit.
