The barquentine Bonnie Doon oommenced loadiDg ca-go at the cross wharf to day. Captain Waller ha* resumed command of the Brußner, and Mr Newton, chief officer of the Tarawera, has been appointed to the command of the Oreti. During the week ended May 3 the following vessels have been at the Dunedin wharves:-Airivals: Poherua 749 tons, Rotomahana 865, Comet 58, Watrarapa 1,023, Mahinapua 205, Bonnie Doon 456, Penguin 442, Beautiful Star 146; total, 3,944 tons. Departures : Rotoru* 576 tans, Poherua 749, Beautiful Btar Ufi, Invercargill 123, Hauroto 1276, Lizzie 26, Rotomahana 865, Jubilee 816, Gleneida 744, Mahinapua 205; total, 5,526 tons. The barque Onyx was towed up from Port Chalmers this forenoon, and berthed at the wharf to ducbaige her cargo of coal. The ketch Oitlin arrived at Napier on the 3rd inst., after a rougb passage. The Union Steam Ship Company received a cablegram from Home this morning advising them of the sailing on the 2nd Inst, of the Ovalau, their new steamer for the AucklandFiji trade. Barque Bonnie Doon, from New York (H. S Chipman, agent), will discharge cargo at the oross wharf. Dunedin consignees are requested to pass entries. Owing to the continuance of the heavy B.W. gale, the Hinemoa (which has been anchored outside the Heads since Saturday morning) steamed into port this forenoon and was berthed at the Bowen pier. The birque Onyx, from Newcastle, with 663 tons coal, arrived off the Heads at noon on Saturday, and was tendered by the tug Plucky, which towed her up as far as Deborah Bay, where she anchored at 2 30 p. m. She left Newcastle on April 20 with a light N.N.E. breeze, whioh held for twenty-four hours, followed by S.S.W. winds and fine weather until making the land off Bieaksea Sound, when the wind shifted to S.S.E., and she beat round the West Cape and sighted the Solanders at 3 a.m. on May 1, when the wind backed to the N.W., Increasing with terrific force, attended by a very high sea. The gale lasted until she breasted Waipapapa Point at 4 p.m., and during the gale several of her sails were blown away —her topsail clean out of the bolt ropes, The gale moderated at 4 p.m, and the wind came out from N.N E., and sighted Oape Saunders at daylight on the 2nd inst.; stood off the land until 8 a.m., when she headed for Taiaroa Heads, and was towed into port as above. The Beautiful Star, from Lyttelton via intermediate port?, arrived at Pott Chalmers at 2,40 p.m. yesterday, and steamed direct to Dunedin. MOVEMENTS OF THE UNION STEAM SHIP COMPANY'S FLEET. Monday, May 4. Lyttelton.—Mahinapua sailed 2 p.m. for Wellington.—Brunner arrived 2 p.m. from Wellington. Nelson.—Oreti arrived 5 a.m. from Wellington ; sailed 3 p.m. for Taranaki. WKBTPOBT.—OmaFere sailed 5 p.m. for Lyttelton, Gbeykouth —Grafton arrived from Weßtport; sailed noon for Westport. Spit.—Pohuera sailed 4 p.m. for Gisborne. Auckland.—Southern Gross arrived noon from Gisborne.—Rotomahana arrived 6.30 a,m, from Gisborne. ARRIVAL OF THE DUKE OF BUOKINGHAM. The New Zealand Company's chartered steamer Duke of Buckingham, from London via Santa Cruz, arrived off the Heads shortly after 8 a.m. to-day, and was boarded by Pilot Milne, who brought her inside the Heads at 9 a.m., and she steamed up the harbor as far as the quarantine ground, where she anchored, having on board some 490 packages of gunpowder, and a clean bill of health being reported she was at once cleared in, when she oommenoed to discharge ber powder into the schooner Ark. The Duke of Buckingham is stiil under the command of Captain Groombrldge. Mr Col tar has succeeded Mr Große as chief officer, and Messrs Bagshaw and Tates come as second and third ofnoers. The Duke of Buckingham brings some* 2.500 tons of cargo (1,200 tons of whioh Is for Dunedin, 680 tons for Lyttelton, 490 toDS for Wellington, and the remainder for other other ports). Her draught is 20lt6in. Her passage has occupied fifty-thre* dayß from Gravesend, and was marked by some heavy weather while running down her easting. She left the Royal Albert Docks ou Maroh 12, anchored at Gravesend, and after embarking her powder left again at 1.15 a.m. on the 13th; passed the Foreland at 6.34 a.m., Beaoby Head at 0.52 p.m. same day, and the ÜBhant at 013 p.m. on March 14; had N.W. to W.B.W. winds to arrival at Sant* Cruz at 6.23 a.m. on the 20th; coaled, and left again at 8 p.m. same day, with a northerly breeze whioh led her into the N.E. trade on the following day, in latitude 25deg 49mln N„ loßgitude 16deg 33minW.; the trade wa* fresh, and gave out in latitude 12deg 46min N„ longitude 17deg 24min W. on Maroh 24 ; crossed the Equator on the 27th, and took the S.E. trade on the following day : bad good trade, whioh carried her down to latitude 29deg 8„ longitude Mdeg 12mm W.j crossed the meridian of Greenwich on April 1 in latitude lSdeg 4mln 8.; after losing the trade she had fresh breezes from N.W. to S.W., and rounded the Cape of Good Hope on April 9 m latitude 34deg 14min 8.; thenoe she bad strong winds, with occasional gales, from 8.8. W, round to N, attended by high sew right across, and passed the meridian of Cape Lefiuwin on April 26 in latitude 1 gSdeg 9min S.: still keeping fresh winds from N.N.W.' to W.N.W,, she passed the Island of Tasmania oh April 29: strong winds with heavy seas continued, and she made her first landfall, the Snares, at 3 a,m. on May 3, arriving off the Heads aB above.
