The matches that were played on Saturday resulted as follow :—Union held a practice matoh at the North Ground; but after playing for about twenty minutes the game was stopped through a heavy shower coming en.

The first of this season's junior club matches took place at Kew between the Caversham and Warehousemen Clubs. The latter winning the toss, the Caversham kicked off again*!; the wind and rain. The ball was quickly returned, and play for some time centred in the Caversham twenty-five; but by good forward play the ball was transferred to the Warehousemen's line, when R. Lang got across, A. Lang scoring the major point. On resuming after half-time, the Warehousemen were speedily put on the defensive, the ball being repeatedly rushed to their line, force-downs being the result. From a pass M'Kersey scored a try, no goal resulting. The game finished leaving Caversham victors by 4 points to nil, For the winners A. Lang, Clarke (2), Jefferson, Bryant, and for the losers fiaydon, Kinvig, M'Robie, M'Phee, and Smythe played well. The Falmerston Club played their first match on Saturday, when they met a team from the Moeraki Club. Soon after the game started some heavy showers fell, making the ball and ground very greasy and preventing any scientific play. Still the game was very fast and exciting, the Maoris showing up very well ; and they will no doubt, after practice and a better acquaintance with the game, prove formidable opponents. The game resulted in a win for the local team by 10 points to 1. The rough weather prevented the Kaikorai Club playing on their ground, but the members indulged in an hour's practice in the local hall. It is said the first fifteen will be very strong behind the scrum this season. The principal fixture for Saturday next will be between those old rivals, Alhambra and Kaikorai. The north end club are very strong this season, particularly behind the scrum, and mean to make a determined bid for the championship. The Dunedin Club are promised the services of T.
