Bankrupt, examined, said he had been carpentering within the past year or two, but he gave it up in January last, when he took a flax-mill at Edendale. Witness's partner in the business was Smith. Witness put in Ll2, and Smith L6O 10s 6d. The plant was on the ground. The receipts were Ll3B 9a 6d. He had a sum of L 43 in a pocket - book when he was coming from Inveroargill at one time. At Edendale he took a pound out for railway fare, and that was the last he saw of the book. When he got home he missed it, and although he had advertised for it he had not recovered it. He would swear he had lost the money. When bankrupt started the mill he was free of debt. From the 15;h January to the 30th of April four tons and five hundredweight of flax had been made, for whioh about L6O was received.

In answer to the Assignee, several creditors stated that they bad no reason to doubt bankrupt's story about loaing money. The Assignee remarked that it was in the power of the men to whom wages were due to take one or two courses, as they pleased. They might sue the partner, who was equally liable, or they might wait to see if the bankrupt bad any means of paying, or they might discharge him from the claims. Mr Rutherford said the best thing they could do was to teat the other partner, and see if there was anything to be got in that way,

On the motion of Mr Lookhart, seconded by Mr Williams, who are two oreditors for wages, it was agreed to recommend bankrupt for discharge. The meeting was adjourned sine cfte.
