FOOTBALL.
A match was played on Saturday between the Green Island and Caversham Schools, when the former won by 4 points to nil. Green Island winning the toss, elected to play against the wind. Russell kicked off for Caversham, and Harraway returned the kick. Play immediately centred in Caversham's quarters. Green Island kept the ball going, and Canning, who bad been working hard, carried the ball over the line and scored a try for Green Island. There was no more scoring in the first spelL In the second spell play again centred in Caversham's quarters, and Canning rushed the ball over the line and scored the second try. Green Island's quarters were now invaded, but Donaldson kicked the ball back, and Scott dribbled it over the line and scored the third try. Kerr gained the fourth fay. No goalß were kicked, owing to there being no posts. ___________

The following particulars of the doings in the cricket field of George Lohmann (who accompanies Lord Sheffield to the colonies next season), since his first association with English first-class matches in 1884, should prove interesting at the present juncture : Batting: Inning, 245; times not out, 21; runs, 4,838; most in an innings, 116; avenge, 19.80. Of the wickets taken 493 were bowled, 516 caught, 30 lbw, 23 stumped, and two hit wickets. In his 224 completed innings, Lohmann baa been caught out 105 times, bowled 82, stumped 19, ran out 10 times, and lbw on 8 occasions.
The stakes for the Caulfield Cup have been raised to L 3.000. Lady Bell, Forest King, Leinster, and Assyrian King have been entered for the principal events at the Southland Racing Club's autumn meeting. Lancaster Park Cricket Club have a good record for the pait season. They are the holders of the senior challenge cup, having won all their matches.
We understand that the owner of Wayland was bo disgusted with the colt's running at Mosgiel on Easter Monday, and with the action of the Taieri stewards as reported in our Saturday's issue, that he took Bteps to immediately get rid of him. Wayland has now gone into Hankins's stable.
