The laying of the new cable through the Red Sea has been completed. Preparations are being made for laying another cable between Aden and Bombay, and a third line of cable between Madras and Penang is ready to be put down. The new cable tariff would come into operation much sooner if the Agents-General were instructed to sign agreements with the Cable Company. Cargoes of Australian wheat, to arrive during January and February, have been sold at 37s 6d.
