EXTENSIVE DEFALCATIONS. SYDNEY, January 8, (Received January 8,1891, at noon.)
It has been discovered that Bennett, late manager of the Paddington branch of the English and Scottish Chartered Bank, perpetrated frauds with great ingenuity. He appears to have operated upon the London Chartered Bank, as well as his own bank, by means of title deeds and other securities. His defalcations amount to fully L 20,000.
POSTAL REFORM. MELBOURNE, January 8. The first mail to the United Kingdom under the 2£d rate of postage shows an increase of 50 per cent, over the number of letters forwarded under the old tariff.
