SERIOUS RIOT.

GLASGOW, January 6. A riot occurred at Motherwell, in which 20,000 miners, who are on strike, took part. Many persons were injured. Later. The strikers at Motherwell who bad been evicted created a riot, and the assisttance of the police and military had to be evoked. The police charged the rioters, while the military fired on them with blank cartridges. Shops have been sacked at Blantyre.

THE KOCH CURE.

BERLIN, January 6. (Received January 7,1891, at 10.50 a.m.J Professor Bernheim, a pupil of Dr Koob, states that the foundation of the consumption lymph is bouillon, made from horseflesh, and that the tubercle bacillus is introduced, which develops the virus. The bacilli then die, but to ensure their exclusion the liquid is pressed through unglazed porcelain. The compound is again supplied with bacilli, and the proooss repeated several times. A half per cent, of carbolic solution is added to prevent putrefaction. Professor Bernheim says that it is impossible to determine the strength of the remedy.
