EXHIBITION BEER AWARDS.
TO THE KDITOK.
Sir,—lt is freely stated that the brewers who have gained awards for the general excellence of their beers were adverse to an analysis of the same, if the analysis was to be made public, and insisted that taste and appearance should be considered sufficient to guide the jurors in their awards. This arrangement, from the chemical jurors’ standpoint no doubt is to he desired, but I think they might enlighten their customers as to contents, and not, as now, leave it to be inferred that their productions would not stand a too thorough examination. Let them do as the brewers did at the National Brewers’ Exhibition in London in 1880, when the exhibitors had their exhibits analysed, and the analyist’s report posted up for their patrons’ benefit. Why should not the New Zealand brewers do the same ? I am, etc., Interested. Dunedin, January IS.
