THE SWEATING COMMISSION

The mcmbcn of the Sweating Commission are as followMr Colin Allan and Rev Rutherford Waddell, of Dunedin ; Messrs J. K. Blair and D. P. Fisher, of Wellington ; Messrs F. Jones, M U R., and F. E. Wright, of Christchurch ; Messrs Francis Cherry and T. Thompson, IJ. tf.R,, of Auckland; and Mr J, Fulton, as chairman.

The object of the Commission is to inquire as to the manner and terms on which persons are employed in wholesale and retail shops or manufactories and hotels; to report upon the relatione generally subsisting between those who employ and those who are employed ; and to make recommendations as to the most suitable methods of determining questions arising between the two parties. It will be s jen that extensive scope is given to the Commission, and it will be equipped with all authority necessary to make its inquiries exhaustive and valuable. Those pe’sons concerned who are in a position to give evidence should be prepared to come forward and do so as expeditiously as possible, for we understand the Commission will sit very shortly. It is proposed to hold the first sitting in Dunedin, and at the other chief centres as soon as possible.
