CHARITABLE AID HOARD.

A committee meeting of the United Charitable Aid Board was held at the Town Hall this afternoon. Mr J. Robin (chairman) presided, and there were also present Messrs W. Snow, J. R. Monson, W. Will, J. Green, and P. Miller. INDIGENT NATIVES. Under-Secretary Lewis intimated that after careful consideration the Government had decided that for the future indigent persons of the Native race who required eleemosynary aid or free medical attendance must look to the local bodies, who are in receipt of subsidies, to provide for charitable aid to meet their requirements, and that such bodies must be held responsible to provide what may be necessary. If cases were brought under the notice of the Government in which the local body was neglecting to fulfil its responsibility in this direction the necessary provision would be arranged by the department, and the cost deducted from the subsidy due to the local body, industrial school control. With respect to the Board's application for some control over the management of the Industrial School, Caversham, the Colonial Secretary intimated that this matter was fully discussed in a letter addressed to the Board on April 6 last. As, however, the administration charitable aid of and kindred subjects would be taken into consideration by thn Government very shortly, it had been decided not to deal further with this particular matter until a decision upon the general question had been arrived at. —The communication was received. REQUISITIONS FOR PAYMENT.

The following requisitions for payment were passed:—Benevolent Institution, L 607 4s 9d; Female Refuge, Lls ; St. Mary's Industrial School, Nelson (nintcen children for ninety-one days at Is per day), LB6 9s. It was also resolved to pay the sum of LIOO to the Industrial School, Caversham, being balance of claim for support of indigent children to September 30 last. HOSPITAL BOARD. The ordinary Committee meeting of tho Hospital Board was then held. On the application of the Hospital Trustees payment was passed for L 442 14s 7d for salaries and maintenance for the month of November.
