NAPIER, October 23.

The severest shock' of earthquake experienced for many years was felt at 8.15 to-night. The direction was east to west. So far as ascertained no damage was done. WANGANUI, October 23. A severe shock of earthquake occurred here this evening about 8.16, and lasted about a minute and a half. The wave was from north to south. WELLINGTON, October 23.
