CAPTAIN STRONACH’S RETIREMENT

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Does Old Barnacle wish to be commandant?—l am, etc., Wm. Goldie. Port Chalmers, October 23.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —Permit me to correct the report with reference to the probable retirement of Captain Stronach which appeared in last night’s issue of your paper. _ The Port Chalmers Naval Artillery is not in any way concerned in this matter. It is the Otago Hussars and the Dunedin Naval Artillery. By making this correction you will oblige, yours, etc., T. J. Thomson, Captain Port Chalmers Naval Volunteers. Port Chalmers, October 23.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —In lost night’s issue I read a letter signed by “ Old Barnacle,” and he says if Captain Stronach retires Commandant Goldie also ought to retire. Now, in the first place, there never was a dispute between the Fort Chalmers Naval Artillery and the Hussars. I for one would be very sorry indeed to see Captain Stronach resign, but if he does I do not see why Commandant Goldie should do likewise. From what I have heard on good authority I consider Commandant Goldie acted wisely under the circumstances; and as the report of the inquiry never was published, I should like to know where “ Old Barnacle” got his Information, lam a daily reader of the Stab, but I have never seen or heard of the result the Commission or Court of Inquiry arrived at.—l am, etc., ANXIOUS, Port Chalmers, October 23.
