CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

Tiic monthly meeting held this afternoon was attended by Messrs.]. Robin (chairman), W. Snow, M. Fagan, and J. Green. Messrs Monsonand Clark sent apologies for nonattendance. The Benevolent Institution intimated that their requirements for the month of May amounted to L 859 Gs 4d ; and the contributions, interest, etc,, came to Ll7oSslod, leaving a sum of LOSS l/s Gd, a requisition for which was now made to the Board. The Chairman said that he had advanced L3OO to the Benevolent Trustees so as to enable them to avoid incurring an expense for interest on the debit balance. Last year the interest paid in this way came to Ll3. it was resolved to pay the L3BB 17-s Gd to make up the sum required. The Industrial School forwarded a claim for L 1,128 12s 10d.-.Mr Snow thought they might as well pay Ll2B, and Jet the LI,OOO stand over, but it was decided to pay L2OO. The Female Refuge asked for LlO, which was granted, it being arranged that the chairman and Mr Green should wait on the Refuge Committee in reference to certain other items of expenditure. With regard to the case of the Scott family, it was resolved that as the Board had had no hand in licensing the children out, there was no responsibility on the Board to provide boots for the family. HOSPITAL BOARD. Mr Carroll came in jut in time to make a quorum at the mooting of this body. The hospital expenditure for April was L 465 10s 8d and the income U>s 3s, leaving a balance of L 370 7s Bd, which was passed for payment. The Chairman mentioned that this was L 55 below the estimated expenditure. The Secretary submitted a list of the payments received from local bodies, and it was remarked that several of these bodies had not made their month’s payments, but were accustomed to pay quarterly. It was resolved to instruct the secretary to send a cireaiay to those bodies in arrear intimating that the paymoutu ihogld be made each month.
