SPORTING INTELLIGENCE.

The final acceptances for the Sydney Gold Cup, to be run on Easter Monday, are : Arsenal, Carlyon, Acme, Australian Peer, Oaklcigh, Ben Bolt, Algerian, The Nun, Lady Godiva, Touchstone, Upper Cut, Bothwell, and Aristocrat. The latest betting is: 4to 1 against Acme; sto 1 Arsenal, Carlyon, and Oalfleigh ; 6 to 1 Australian Peer j and 7 to 1 Ben Bolt. The Auckland New Zealand Stud Company have had another stroke of bad luck—the thoroughbred sire Sword Dance, which they recently imported from England to take the place of Musket, having died from inflammation of the lungs. Owing to the rain this afternoon the second of the trial matches arranged by the 0.R.F.U., with the view of choosing a team to play against the English footballers, has been postponed till Monday. Play will commence at 3 p.m. In connection with the visit of a Nelson team, word has been received that the trip will probably be made towards the end of the season, but pending the annual meeting of the Nelson Union nothing has been decided. The cricket match English Eleven v. Canterbury Eighteen was concluded on Thursday, the match being drawn. Canterbury scored 144 in the first innings and 80 in the second. In their first innings the Englishmen made 75 (Reid 44, not out); second innings, no wickets for 31. Blueskin races take place on Easter Monday on the Warrington course. A railway excursion at cheap fares is announced in connection with this meeting, and Messrs Mason and Roberts advertise that they will have a totalisator on the ground. The following are the acceptances for the principal events:— HtrRDLRS.-Mabel 11.7. Canary 10.13, Goldsbrougb 10.11, Billy 10.D, Sweep 8.10. Cup.—Thistle 9.7, Mabel 8 13, Cassowary 8.13, Goldsbrough 8.11, Billy 8.8, Blueskin 8.6, Mahomet 8, Redoubt 7.13. Stable Jaoket 7.11, Gift 7.9, Clematis 7.7. Trot.—Fenian scratch, Why Not COyds, Mystery 100 yds, Vesta 160 yds, Little Nell 170 yds. C.J.C. AUTUMN MEETING. [By Pegasus.] CHRISTCHURCH, March 81. The following acceptances were posted at 1.30 to-day:— Templbton Stakes.—La Hose 7.10, Titbit 7.7, Patrician 6.12, Erin-go-bragh 6 9, Sultan 6.5. Champagne Stakes.—Bed wood, Carbine, Sommeil, Ravenswinp. Epsom Wki/tbr Handicap. Marlborough 9.12, Patrician 8 5, Haka 8.5, Count d'Orsay 8, Wakatipu 8, Seorecy7.7, Archduke 7.7. Rbsslby STAKBS.-Son.of-»-gun 8.7, Bar Sinister 8.7, Vandal 7.12, Wolverine 7.8, Mikado 7, Fleurette 6.7, Aprfis Moi 6.7, Rainbow 6 7. Challenge Stakes. Sommeil, Silver Mark, Russley, Carbine. The rough weather of the week has subsided, and there is every prospect of a fine and warm day on Monday, while the course will by that time be in fair condition. The fields of horses will, however, be small, and altogether the gathering will prove less interesting than usual. The number of visitors here as yet ia the smallest on record. Proceedings will commence with the Hurdle Race, which should be won by Tres Sec or Isaac, with Monteagle as the best outsider. The Templeton Stakes looks a good thing for Sultan, though La Rose, if in her best form, ought to trouble him. The field for the Autumn Handicap has been reduced to six through the scratching of Snapshot at ten o'clock this morning, and I fancy it will be still further reduced before the flag falls. I did not care for the look of either of Webb's pair—Springston and Ruby —this morning, the latter being decidedly lame, and Springston not looking so pink as at Dunedin. Still, in the small field there will be, Springston may pull through. Silver Mark is doing fairly well, and so is St. Clair; but Torrent runs in a very in-and-out fashion on the training track, while Engagement is amiss, and couli only win by a miracle. Summing the matter up, I expect to see Silver Mark and St. Clair finish first and second, with Torrent as the only one probable to upset the calculations of public and private form. The Champagne has but four acceptors, and on performances Carbine should win ; but Dan O'Brien's colt has a bit of a leg this morning to my mind, and I shall anticipate Sommeil's success. For the Epsom Handicap I like Wakahpu, with Haka second, Count d'Orsay third. In the Russley Stakes I prefer Apres Moi and Wolverine. Of betting there is none, but nominally Springston and Silver Mark are both at 2 to 1 for the Great Autumn Handicap, with 4 to 1 offered against any other. Doubles on the Hurdle Race and Great Autumn are taken at from 10 to 15 to 1.
