THE PORT CHALMERS LICENSING COMMITTEE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sjß, I only notice the letters of your correspondents " Percontator " and "Aqua" lest otherwise thoir vanity and conceit (of which there is ample internal evidence) should lead them and others of the same type to flitter themselves that my silence was attiibutable to regret for anything I said or did on the occasion referred to. These letters are not, I suppote, meant to be complimentary, but it is not to their contents that I take exception bo much as to the idea which evidently pervades them that I am a per&">n of such weak and facile disposition as to be moved from any course of action I consider right by such fanatical balderdash. This is humiliating indeed. Surely these worthies might give 1 me the slight credit of having given an important subject such as this some consideration before making up my mind ; and further, th«t, having made up my mind, and not being (I hope) an absolute idiot, I am scarcely likely to be influenced by the slipshod and inconsequent twaddle of the first anonymous scrihfeler who happens to come along.'—l am etc, Jojjn Drtsdai-e. " Porj; Chalmers, March ljO.
