COAL FOR SMITHY PURPOSES.

TO THE KDITOB. SIR,—In reference to a statement made at the Protection League meeting on Monday night by Mr Swan, that there was no tmithy coal discovered yet within this colony, I wish to state that I have been using Biunner nuts for smithy purposes for the last eight years, and I have found it more suitable and economical for this purpose than any imported coal I have yet tried, although I have been paying from 10 to 15 per cent, moro per ton for it than tor Newcastle coal; and as for a disagreeable smell or bad for welding, I find no inconvenience in that direction.—lam, etc, Jos. Sparrow, engineer. Dunedin, March 14.
