Mr Ernest Faevuo, the explorer, who is compiling a history of Australian exploration, and Mr Cuthbertson, have left for Geraldton, Western Australia, where they will organise an exploring party. Mr Faevue proposes to inspect a large area of unstocked country, and subsequently to undertake a trip into the unexplored region between the tracts of Forest and Warburton. Should the season be favorable, he intends to strike southwards, cutting the tracks of other explorers at right angles. Mr Faevue is being assisted by the Geographical Society of Australasia. The Melbourne Tramway Trust have been applying in Sydney for hands to take the place of those now on strike. Yesterday 500 applications were made. One hundred were engaged and sent to Melbourne. At the Centennial rifle competition the cup was won by Mr Page, of the Melbourne Rifles, With the cup the winner takes L.IOO and a gold medal. He scored 206 points out of a possible 245. The Manapouri, when leaving Port Philip on her way to New Zealand, collided with the barque Speedwell. Both vessels had their foretopgallant masts carried away, hut tt'ere otherwise uninjured. The Victorian Government, having received no reply from the Imperial Government to the communication sent them respecting the admission of foreign warships into Port Philip, have determined to immediately frame regulations restricting the admission of such vessels.
