PAIN'S FIREWORKS.
Referring to tho recent fjrework displays given by Mr James Pain on the Government House reserve at Auckland the 'Star,' says:—"The exhibition of Pain's fireworks, given on the Metropolitan Ground on Saturday evening, was undoubtedly the event of Christmas Eve. Many thousands of people assembled there to witness tho promised display, and it may be safely said that the greatest anticipations of something brilliant were more than realised. The grounds, which were gorgeously lighted with Chinese and Japanese lanterns, looked quite charming. The splendor of the firework effects elicited the greatest astonishment and admiration." A full programme will be published in our advertising columns to-morrow, and promises a rare treat for the sight-seeing portion of the Dunedin public. We hope the present fine weather will last during the continuance of Mr Pain's displays.
