HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

A meeting of the Hospital Trusters, held yesterday afternoon, was attended by Meters H. Houghton (chairman), Dr Maunsell. Dr Hislop, J. Green, Robin, 11. Clark, J. White, and I'. Miller.

A letter was received from the AuditorGeneral in reference to the balance-sheet for 1886. He wrote : "The balance-sheet is certified with one alteration, which I have been compelled to make, because the Institution has received a subsidy from the Government to which it was not entitled, the sum upon which that subsidy was received having been paid to the institution before it became a separate institution under the Act."—The letter was referred to Messrs Robin and Miller. The Finance Committee's report, which was adopted, showed that salaries and accounts for January, amounting to L4SC lOs, had been passed for payment. The bank pass-book showed a credit balance of L1.31813s lOd. The following progress payments, as recommended by the architect, were passed on aecount of the new operatir)g-room: Joseph Barton, L 395 10s; George Armstrong, inspector of works, Ll3 10s. The repayments for in-patients for January amounted to L 79 18s, -and for outpatients to L 3 18s. Drs De Zouehe, Teevan, and Ogston wrote applying for the position of physician to the out-patients' department for children.—Dr De Zaucho was elected.

Replies were received from tho Ohristchurcb, Wellington, and Auckland Hospitals in refereace to lying-in cases in tho3e cities. At Christchurch and Wellington there are no lying-in wards, but at Auckland there is a maternity ward, in which none but indigent cases are admitted. Tliis ward is entirely separate from the Auckland Hospital, but convenient to it —On the motion of Mr 'White, seconded by Dv Maun'SHLl, it was resolved—" That the Trustees cease to have anything to do with making provision for lying-in cases." It was resolved—"That notification be inserted in the local up-country papers notifying that patients, will not be received unless a guarantee is given for their maintenance either by the chaiiman the of County Council or Hospital Board, or unless the patient be in a position to pay for himself."
