SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
The North-east Valley Committee have voted for Dr Brown, Mr Keith Ramsay, and Miss Freeman for the Education Board.
The monthly meeting of the George street Committee, held last night, was attended by Messrs Jago (chairman), Roberts, Cohen, M'Donald, Beckenham, Mitchell, and Simpson. The head-master reported that the numberof children on the roll was 990, and the average attendance had been 82"). The Committee voted for Miss Freeman, Dr Brown, and Mr Sumpter to the Education Board. A circular was received from the Board intimating that the school allowance under the reduced scale would be only L 95 instead of L 145 as formerly. After some discussion the chairman and secretary were appointed a deputation to wait on the Board and point out the fact that the school attendance was now 100 in excess of the number for which the grant was allowed, and to urge the necessity of special provision being made in respect thereto.
