BOWLING.

TAIEKI V. CALEDONIAN. A match was played off on Saturday botween the Taieri and Caledonian Clubs on the Taieri green, at Mosgiel. The Taieri green is situated in a quiet and retired corner of the reCfcatioh ground. During last winter the green was heavily top-dressed with fine sand, which made the soil very loose and friable. The grass did not thrive on this, and the green on Saturday was very bare. The visitors set to work and had a little praetice before the contest took place, and they found the green very keen. The game commenced at 2.40 and terminated at 5.40. From the commencement the visitors took the lead. In Nos. 1, 2, and 4 rinks the play was very even, but in No. 3 the local team were overweighted, though they did their level best to try and redeem themselves.
