WELLINGTON, November 8. Workmen's Wages.

Mr Moss gave notice to-day to ask the Treasurer whether, among the various large sums which he proposes to carry e» globo as reductions in the public expenditure, there are included any reductions in the wages at present paid to skilled and unskilled workmen employed in the public service; if ao, will he inform the House of the extent and character of snch proposed reductions, as any action in that direction on the part of the Government must gravely affect the position of large masses of our people dependent on manual labor throughout the Colony. Te Kooti. Inspector Kiely has telegraphed to headquarters that Constable Jones had been informed on good authority at Eihikiha that Te Kooti, with a majority of his followers, was to leave the East Coast on the -Bth December. Works North of Auckland. A deputation of North Auckland members, consisting of Messrs Thompson, Monk, and Hobbs, waited on the Minister of Works to-day, and urged that LIOO.OOO ahould bo set apart from the loan for the construction of the Anckland-Helensville Railway. The Minister promised to take the matter into his consideration, but held ont very little hope of being able to oomply with the re.* quest. Mr Thompson submitted a resolution of the Northern counties asking for L 50.000 a-year for roads and bridges north of Auckland. Mr Mitchelson promised to send a» official reply, which, I may add, will be in the negative, The -Financial Debate. The Midland Railway.. The whole question of the Midland RailI way is likely to be referred today to & I Select Committee. The names will probably be submitted to kir J. Yogel this afternoon, and, if they meet with his concurrence, will be agreed to. Items. It can hardly be passed over silence. The, anonymous author and printer of suph a document ought most certainly to be ferreted out and called upon to answer fortheir conduct." The Otago Centra}* Ministers are undecided whether they wilt support Mr Pyke's Central Railway Bill as. a Government measure, but they will not. oppose it in that capacity.
