• ■— AUCKLAND, October 17. This morning a five-roomed house at Seafield View road, owned by Mr William Davidson and occupied by Mr Carl Smith, was destroyed by fire. It was insured in the New Zealand Office for L 250, and the furniture for LIOO in the Norwich Union. A nine-roomed villa near Otahuhu, in the course of erection for Mr Symonds, of the acid works, was destroyed by fire late on Sunday night. The contractors were insured in the New Zealand Office, but the amount is not known.
