DUNEDIN CENTRAL.
to the editor.
Sir,— ln my letter published in your columns of tho 3rd I said that Mr Cargill had refused to answer tho questions referred to because they wore in writing. Tbe ao.uil facts aro that ho refused to answer any written questions, and as a consequence mine were not put to him. I was unable to attend tho meeting myself, and handed them to a friend with a request that ho would hive them sent up. Ho returned them to me saying that Mr Cargill had refused to answer them because they were in writing I should be very sorry to misrepresent Mr Cargill, and have therefore already published this explanation in the columns of your morning contemporary, thus availing myso'f of the earliest opportunity of removing the impression that might otherwise be conveyed by my letter. My oniy dcs'ro is to ascertain accurately Mr Cargill’s exact position on the cduealion question, and this can only bo done by his answering specifically yes or no to each of tho four questions I have put to him —I am, etc., John H. Gay. Dunedin, September 5.
