THE FOOTBALL REPRESENTATIVE TEAM.

TO TIIK EDITOR.

Sm,—Like ail other individuals who take an interest in football, I carefully perused the remarks of “ Dropkick,” published in your last night’s issue, and I am convinced that in his criticism of tho action of the Committee he is perfectly correct, and expresses the opinien of the majority of the footballers of Dunedin ; but I think his description of the men is not altogether correct After reading the description, one would he led to the conclusion that Beck was tho weakest forward in the team, whereas he is without doubtlhs best forward wo have in Otago. He is fast and powerful, dribbles splendidly, and works hard from the hr.ginning to tho end of tho grmo “ Drop-kick” also says that Isiacs is the beet forward in the Montccilio Club. Here, I believe, he is agiin wrong, and Isaacs readily admits that Beek is a better man. Then as to Simpson, we are told that ho is a diminutive half-back. If he means by this that ho is very light ho again errs, because Simpson is as heavy, if not heavier, than the other half-backs who are chosen I am, etc , Mark. Dunedin, August 10. TO TUB EDITOR. Sir,—lt is a matter of regret and adverse comment an ongiit footballers generally that the Match Com mittco have decided on p'aying three hall-hacks in the coming intcrprovincial contests. Considering that our men will have to meet full teams cl firstclass forwards, it i, giving tco many points to our opponents to play a man short in the scrum, with a feather ■ weight centre half behind them who wou'd be practically useless were the scrum carried against us. The appointment of Hunter as captain is injuiicious, if only on the grounds of his defective vision ; but the attempt to foist him on the team as skipper is a palpable mistake on the part of tho Match Committee, who should have left iho selection to the team themselves, according to usual custom, and more particularly in view of the fact that there are four other captains of senior dubs who arc members of the team.—l am, ote., Otago.
