Maori Hlll.— At this Borough Council's meeting last night Ur James Booth (Leith Valley) wrote claiming 10s (or damage done to his mare through stumbling Into an old eulvert in the road, whiob gave way while he was crossing it. The Council declined liability.-Bishop Nevlll wrote asking that an approach be formed to his residence, it was resolved that L 4 be expended on the road.—A letter was read from the manager of the Colonial Bank, claiming LIOO, being overdraft received by the Borough Oounoil for relief works. It appears that the money bad been drawn by the late Mayor (Ur O. Mitchell) without, it was alleged, the authority of (he Oounoil, There wag a discussion as to whether the Oounoil or Mr Mitchell was responsible (or the money, and eventually it was decided to get legal advice on the matter. 1
Morninqton,— At Tuesday's meeting of this Connell a letter was received from Ur E. Holland, drawing attention to the state of Wesney street, and intimating (bat it the street were not formed, or the nuisance complained of were abated, he should take legal proceedings against the Oounoil. Several requests to attend to footpaths, eto„ were referred to (he Works Committee. The tenders of J. Casey (LI 19s per chain), (or forming footpath in Glen avenue and Neldpath road, and of .P. Leyden (L 23 193) for metalling the road across the Belt, from Stafford street to Eglinton,- were aooepted.— The reports of the Finance and Works Committees and of the inspector were adopted.-The Mayor inti; mated that no would withdraw the notice of motion which he had given re sinking fund. Such a motion was not necessary, and -with tho assistance of (be Finance Committee he would give instructions that L4O yearly should be paid into (he bank out of the general fund to provide for a slaking fund. Although bis predecessors had taken an illegal course he meant to take a legal one, and would take, steps to open (he slnklrg fund at once As.
