Cavervham.— of this Council was held on Thursday evening, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr Bragff), Cra M.etliyen, Nutting, Taverner, Rutherford, Burman, M'Kelvie, Cole, Bridgman, Calder, and Baskett,—Mr T. R. Fisher was granted permission to elope off his property at St. Clair, bow it down In grass, and erect a fence, subject to the supervision of the inspector and during the pleasure of the Couucil. The inspector was instructed to attend to the drains in connection with a complaint from Mr H. Rose of the flooding of the Carigbrook Ground. Mr Lloyd's request for the removal pf i&o pound to a corner of the quarry reserve in Forbuvy ros-d iyas referred for a report to the Works Committee.' A nuinbgr of complaints regarding the state of the streejs were referred to the inspector. Finance Committee reported that L 196 2s lid had been lodged in the bank since lask meeting, und recommended that L2O 8s Tor general accounts and L 9 12s fld on account of loan be passed for payment. They postponed till next meeting consideration of Mrs Roberts's and Mrs Crampton's letters. Adopted.—The Drainage and Water Committee reported having beei interviewed by a deputation from the South Dunedin Fire IJriKadc f.6 Are brigade matters, and stated tb>.t they would' rpporj; thereon to the next mcetitg of Council. Adopted.- Th,9 inspector reported that the nuisance complained of by Mr Wright in Darlfty is merely an accumulation of surface water, which all low-lying sections were subject to in wet weather. Mr Hogg's complaint had been attended to. The footpaths in Upper Goolall street required a few loads of rotten rock and two loads of screenings to make them good. The footpath alongside the railway line was in bid condition, and a truck load of ashes might be got from the railway autho rities to repair it. (To stand over). A portion of the main drain passing over the old culvert ;n front of the Immigration Barracks had given way. Hp had seeured it. in the meantime, but it was a question that must be attended to as soon' as posajjjle. (Referred to the Drainage Committee iyith to act). Three hundred feet of timber of required for stock. Pipes (or a box draijj) were required to carry the surface water acrgss the footpath on the Forbury road, between Albprt street and Victoria street. A slip had taken place in Great Queen street, which required to i/Q removed; there was a large quantity of stone thereto, a&d he'suggested that the stone be spalled and broken' j*£o metal. Approved. A slip bad taken place in Peter street and one in College street, which required to be removed. The olause* not referred to were adopted, and the inspector 1 was instructed to repair tbp wall at St, Clair, near 1 the baths, by day labor at once.—-The following motions were agreed to t--By Or Cole—" That a few loads of screenings ,be put down at the end of Philip street." By Or M'Kelvie— " That a few loads of screenings be put down'on £he footpath in Stuart street" By Cr RuTHERiFQRJ?—"That the accounts of the Borough be kept as refuted by section 138 of the Corporations Act 1886." "That j;he Government have the use of the Town Hall for the purposes of the general election." Tho Council then went into committee. '■
