SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The monthly meeting of the George street School Committee, held last evening, was attended by Messrs Jago (chairman), Cohen, M'Donaid, Simpson, and the Rev. J. Beckenham. The head master reported that the number of scholars on the roll was 9JO, and that the average attendance for the .quarter was 784. —The following circular was received from Messrs P. Petrie and W. Taylor, inspectors <rf schools:—" We beg to inform your Committee that we intend to examine the George street public school on the Uth of July. We shall be glad to see representatives of the Committee present during thp examination, and thereafter to discuss with them any matters that they may deßire to bring under pur notice." — Miss Fraser wrote resigning her appointment as fifth assistant in the school.

The monthly meeting of the Union street School Committee, which was held last evening, was attended by Messrs Mathews (chairman), Gillies, Jackson, Swan, and Drew. It was resolved that the secretary convey to the head-master and assistants their satisfaction at the improvement in the school as evidenced by the decided advance in percentages obtained in the various standards at this year's examination of the school; the percentages being respectively 100, 94, 93, 85, 84, and 74.—The headmaster reported that the number on the roll for the past month was—Boys, 393; girls, 324; total, 717. The average attendance had been—Boys, 344; girls, 274 ; total, 621. The monthly meeting of the Macandrew road School Committee was held in the school-house last night. Present—Messrs (fihetwin/jn the chair), Henderson, Woods, Collin, fugs, and Roy. W. G. Parsonson. Mr lags. b. npw member, w cordially welcomed by the chairman. T?je Hol|daya Committee reported that the midwinter holidays were fixed for next week. The Works Committee reported frosting windows and sundry repairs to playground, etc. Repairs to roof, eto,, were left in the hands of the Committee. An offer re- Standard certificates was declined.
