A GRATEFUL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
to the editor. Sir,—As an old journalist I submit without a murmur to the authority of an editor, who, for reasons known to himself, thinks prop, r to cut down any letter which I may have submitted for publication, oven though he may by so doing take the head off my lance and leave me nothing but the shaft. It is not often, however, that a writer has the good fortune to have the unlooked-for deficiency supplied by a would-be opponent. The texts referred to by “Fulfilled Prophecy” admirably illustrate my argurasnt: such language would not be permissible in any modern literary work for the use of schools. If those are the only arguments my cowardly nsailant, who skulks behind a pseudonym, can use, then my case is so far proved, and the words of another inspired writer are fulfilled—” Why, the Devil can quote Scripture.”—l am, etc., Charles J. Rah. Dunedin, July 2. [We claim the right to excise from all lettirs comments that are calculated to give offence to the religious feelings of the bulk of the community.— Ed. E.S.)
