THE COMING ELECTION.

Messrs M. Casclberg and Papworth arc mentioned as candidates for the Wairarapa North sent.

For M (aura, Mr G. F. Richardson will probably have Messrs James Mackintosh and F. 8. Canning as opponents ; while the representative of Ilokonui, Mr C. Cowan, will be called upon to do battle with Mr H. 8. Valentine and Mr R. D. M’Laughlan. The Wallace electorate will have Mr Hirst, Mr John M‘lntyro, Dr Hodgkinson, and probably many more to choose from ; and Awarua will, as usual, have a multiplicity of suitors. Mr J, P. Joyce will have to meet Messrs G. Froggatt, J. W. Bain, and, possibly, Mr J. G. Ward. But the most interesting competition will in alMikelihcod be for the town of Invercargill, as already the following gentlemen are authoritatively announced as candidates; — Messrs J. Hatch, H. Feldwick, G. W. Brodrick, and Cyril W. Tanner.— ‘ Southland Times.’

Our Wanganui correspondent wires : “The Herald’ to-night has the following paragraph : ‘ It is said that in the event of the VVaitotara scat being cut out by tho Representation Commissioners, the Hon, Mr Bryce will retire into private life. It is an open secret that for some time past Mr Bryce’s health has not been of tho best, and that, but for his duty to his party, he would have preferred to have given up politics some time ago.’ ” The ‘North Otago Times ’ states that Mr Hislop will seek re-election for Oamaru, and that Mr R. B. Wilson will stand for Waitaki.
