Griffith sails for Brisbane via San Francisco on Saturday. A CHEAP PARCELS POST. LONDON. May 12. It is announced that the Agent-General for Queensland has arranged with the British-India Steam Navigation Company to convey parcels to Queensland ports at the rate of 4d per pound weight, with a minimum charge of half-a-crown. QUEENSLAND SEPARATION. LONDON, May 12. In the House of Commons to-day Sir Henry Holland, replying to a question, stated that he had fixed a day on which he would receive deputations from the promoters of the North Queensland separation movement. He was, however, advised that he could not apt without Imperial legislation, and this is unlikely to be granted unless the Queensland Parliament resolves in favor of the proposed separation. MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL. LONDON. May 12. Consols remain at 103|. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock is at 99. The weekly returns of the Bank of Bugland show the total reserve in notes and bullion at L 14,400,000, being L 40.000 less than last week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 47 per cent. Colonial breadstuffs and tallow are unchanged from r ,es quotations. THE NATIONALIST LEADER IN CANADA. MONTREAL, May 12. Mr William O'Brien arrived here yesterday. No enthusiasm was displayed by the townspeople, and the Catholic clergy condemn the objects of his mission. A meeting which he had arranged to hold at Toronto has been prohibited. THE EVACUATION OF EGYPT. , CONSTANTINOPLE, May 12. Sir Drummond Wolff has made certain proposals relating to the British evacuation of Egypt, as well as other points in connection with the government of that country, and there is reason to believe the negotiations between the British and Turkish Governments are at a stage which prom tees an early settlement of the Egyptian difficulty. THE AFGHAN FRONTIER COMMISSION. LONDON. May 13. * Tho Times' to-day publishes a telegram from its St. Petersburg correspondent! stating that the members of the AngloRussian Commission for the delimitation of the Russo-Afghan frontier are unable to agree. The Commissioners have decided to refer the matter to thiir respective Governments.
