IMPERIAL DEFENCE.
[By Electric Telegraph—Copyright, [Reuter's Telegrams.] REQUIREMENTS OF THE COLONIES. LONDON, April 15. (Recelvfid April 16,1887, at 12.20 p.m.) A meeting of the Australasian delegates to the Imperial Conference took place yesterday, at the office of the Agent-General for New South Wales, for the purpose of discussing various subjects brought before the Conference. The principal question considered was that of defence, with a view to an understanding being arrived at before the sitting of the Conference on Monday next, when the question of the Imperial defences will be further considered, After a lengthy discussion, it was agreed that about ten extra war-ships were required for the defence of the Australasian ports, the annual cost of which would be L 100,000; England bearing one-half the expense, the remainder being borne by the colonies in proportion to population.
