A fire occurred at Opunake at 2.30 this morning, when Crawford’s Club Hotel and the Union Bank buildings were burnt. The hotel was insured in the South British Office for L7OO, and the furniture for L3OO. The occupants escaped in their nightdresses, and one man was severely burnt. Natives living at Mangaone, near where the encampment was held, state that the Volunteers in no way interfered with them. WELLINGTON, April 16. At the Supreme Court this morning Crabtree was sentenced to three years' on each charge (two charges burglary, and escaping from [gaol), the sentences to run concurrently.
