Reuter cables to-day that Arsenal is considerably easier in the betting for the Sydney Cup. Monnock, the Wellington pedestrian, who went to Sydney to take part in the Sheffield Handicap, did not get placed in any of the events. On the last day of the Napier races L 35 was obtained from the jockeys being fined. In the Consolation all the jockeys but Robertson, who rode Silence, were fincch Flaying for Lancaster Park against Christ’s College, Cuff made 113; and Glasgow, 48, out of 198 totalled by their side. The following have been nominated for the Timaru Cup Ruby, Titbit, Hermitage, La Rose, Captain Cook, Puck, Apropos, Spade Gained, St. Clair, Dcrwcntor, Mont d’Or, The Gem, Rose and Gold, Jack, Marlon, Russley, Mirella, Qui bio, Nolly, Fusi oar. After some little delay the flag fell to a level start, and passing the stand all were together, hut Mokoia, Camerino, and Fnsileer were the front files. The three firstnamed maintained their positions for about six furlongs, when Fusilecr dropped back in favor of Puck, close at whoso heels came Everton Lad and Quibble. A little further on Camerine was done, and Puck also collapsed, but Mokoia was still holding his own, and looking all over a winner, rirst Everton Lad, however, and then Quibble earae with a run, and a magnificent finish up the straight ended in tho three passing the post locked together in what was almost a dead heat. Quibble had, however, just got up in the last two or three strides, and he was returned the winner of a splendid race by half a-head, while only the same distance separated Everton Lad from Mokoia. Antrim went away in grand style and got into first place in the first mile, at which time Mabel was second, and Flossie third. In the second mile Antrim increased her lead, but the positions of the other horses did not vary much, Mabel going on second, and Flossie third; Duchess was, however, going well, and rapidly passing the other horses. In the last round it was apparent that all was over, and Antrim came in a winner by a couple of hundred yards from Mabel, while Flossie and Dnchess made nearly a dead heat of it for third place. Tho winner’s time was Bmin 32seo. Of L 657 in the totalisators, LBO was on the winner. Dividends: Inside, L 7 19s; outside, L 6 11s.
