Protests against being excluded from the Colonial Conference continue to be received from the Crown Colonies. The inhabitants of Jamaica have protested against being prevented from sending a delegate. The Board of Trade inquiry into the circumstances connected with the collision between the Kapunda and tho Ada Melmore is proceeding. The evidence shows that Cotterill, chief officer of the Kapunda, put her helm down, and his action was the cause of the collision. The statements that the Kapunda sank immediately that she was struck ; that the female passengers were locked in their berths; and that the Ada Melmore had no lights, were confirmed. The French Government have dissolved the Marseilles Council.

An influential deputation, consisting of 100 Tory members, waited on Mr Goschen, asking him in view of the depression in the farming interests to make provision in the forthcoming Budget for granting relief to those following agricultural pursuits. In reply, Mr Goschen said it was his opinion that the time had arrived when it was desirable to review the incidence of taxation generally throughout the United Kingdom, not with the object of remitting any of the existing taxes, but with the view of bringing about a redistribution, so that personal property should be made to contribute more than at present. He considered that there should also bo a change made in the local taxation. Immense preparations have been made in all parts of Germany to celebrate the anniversary of the Emperor William’s birthday. There is a brilliant assemblage of Royalties, Princes, and Envoys in Berlin. Altogether, eighty-four Royal guests will be present. Mr John Norton, labor delegate, will shortly proceed to Germany, whence he takes his departure for Australia in the Neckar, one of the German Lloyd’s line of steamers. Rev. Cameron Lees leaves on April 14 to temporarily fill the pulpit of Scots’ Church, Mc-jbourno, The intention of tho Government to pass without delay the Bill for the suppression of crime in Ireland has been discussed by the London Press. Ib is expected that a lively debate will ensue, and that the Bill will meet with much opposition. The ‘Standard,’ referring to the motion of MrMorlcy, says that such a course would only perpetuate the anarchy which now prevails. The arrest of Father Kellar has created a great sensation among the Irish in the United States, and has had the effect of stimulating the increase of contributions to the National League fund.
