There is never a book to be seen in the strictly fashionable drawing-room of to-day. The reason of the banishment of this kindly friend, 'who made patience possible while waiting for one’s hostess to complete her toilet, can only be explained by the brie-h----brae that tolerates no absence of interest and admiration in or for itself.
