MUNICIPAL.

Port Chalmkrs.— The ordinary meeting of this Council yesterday was attended by the Mayor, Cra Watson, Putnam, Read, Murray, North, Millar, Schumacher, and M'Kenzie.—The secretary of the Charitable Aid Board requested to be furnished with a return of the rateable value of the property in the Borough for the year commencing April 1, 1887. The secretary to the Premier notified that the application of Mr Massey for a reduction of the rent of the Dunback endowment would receive the consideration of the Government.— The Finance Committee reported that the receipts since last meeting were LlO5 13s.— The Works Committee reported that the inspector and staff had been engaged since last meeting in asphalting in Harrington street, which is now completed to Mr M'Kenzio’s property ; also, in asphalting at the front of the Garrison Hall, in blinding footpath in Currie street, in repairing road to the baths, and in cleaning streets and channels in the various wards.—The Lighting Committee were instructed to arrange with the Gas Company for lighting the lamps from April 1 to October 1, and to call for and accept tender for lighting the oil lamps. —The general and water rates for the ensuing year were struck.
