THE SYNOD AND DR STUART.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I was very much shocked to see in this evening’s Star the report of a most unseemly altercation in the Synod regarding our well-beloved Dr Stuart. Mr Downie Stewart did nothing more than his duty in calling attention to the way in which the rev. doctor had been treated. Judge, then, of my surprise to find that Mr Stewart was silenced, the members of the Synod thus losing a most valuable opportunity of expressing their esteem for one of the best and most useful men in the Southern Hemisphere, To my mind, sir, were all the members of the Synod put in the balance with Dr Stuart, that good and self-sacrificing man would far outweigh them all. He lives in the hearts of the people, and long may he be spared to go in and out among them, doing his Master’s work.—l am, etc., A Presbyterian, Ravensbourne, January 21.
