FOOTBALL.
The annual match between the Dunedin and Union Clubs took place on the Northern Ground this afternoon, and as usual excited a great amount of interest. -Messrs Russell and Chapman acted as Mr Wyinks as referee. The game was started at 3.20, and for the first quarter of an hour the Union men, contrary to general expectation, made a very decent show, but thereafter during the first spell the ball was constantly edgiiig towards their goal. Cook, first of all, was very nearly obtaining a touch - down for Dunedin by a very adroit kick, which was followed up by neat play by his side, and Boddiugtou afterwards made a good run, which resulted in a force-down. Mills subsequently obtained a touch-down, but nothing came of the kick, which was given to Clayton. In the spell the Union men played remarkably well all through, but no score was made.
