Consols are g higher than yesterday, to day’s prise being 100|. New Zealand securities are unchanged. The Bank rate is 2 per cent., and the market rate |.
The total reserve of notes and bullion in the Bank of England is L 18,400,000, an increase of L 500,000 during the week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 52 per cent.
Colonial Breadstuff’s. Adelaide wheat (ex store), 36s ; Adelaide flour (ex store), 275. New Zealand wheat (ex store), 30s to 365.

Another picture by Mr J. E. MillaJsi, R.A., “The Ruling Passion,” exhibited at the Royal Academy, has been purchased for the Sydney Art Society. May 29. (Received May 80,1885, at 11 a.m.)
A part of the Ruapehu’s cargo of frozen meat is soft and spotted, and is selling from 3id to 5d per lb. The meat by the Tainui is selling at 5Jd. The shipments of grapes by the steamers Orient and Pekin are in good condition, and the pears by the same vessels arc excellent.

STARTLING INFORMATION, BRISBANE, May 30. (Received May 80,1886, at 12.80 p.m.)
It is stated that the Queensland Government are in possession of information from an authentic source to the effect that Milne Bay, New Guinea, has been forcibly seized by a German vessel.

A large and enthusiastic meeting was held in the Town Hall last night to initiate a movement for the erection of a statue to the late General Gordon. Resolutions were unanimously adopted approving of the project, and a largo number of subscriptions were promised from among those present, who numbered fully 4,000.
THE HORSHAM BANK ROBBERY, MELBOURNE, May 30.
The prisoners Alexander Ross and Milne Smith, who were recently arrested on a charge of being concerned in an extensive robbery from the Loudon Chartered Bank at Horsham in March, 1884, wero examined yesterday, and were remanded for further evidence,

A shop and house, occupied by J, Smith, a chainman at Otaki, was destroyed by fire this morning. It is understood the insurances on the stock and building are— National, L4OO ; South British, L2OO. Mr Hector M‘Kenzle, of Woodvillc, is the s.iccrssful tenderer for the Mount Somers Railway contract. The amount has not transpired. CHRISTCHURCH, May 30.
Nine late employes in the railway service at Lyttelton were charged to-day at the Police Court with conspiracy to defraud the Government. The men were remanded till Wednesday next, as one of the principal conspirators had not been arrested.
