LONDON, May 28. (Received May 2!), 1885, at 1.16 p.m.) The directors of the Bank of England today resolved to reduce the Bank rate from 2i to 2 per cent. THE BRENNAN TORPEDO. LONDON, May 28. It is announced that the Admiralty have definitely adopted the Brennan torpedo.

An important Conference was held at the Admiralty yesterday between the colonial Agents-General and Admiral Sir Cooper Key, Senior Naval Lord, on the subject of colonial defences.

COLONIAL DEFENCES. LONDON, May 28. The wmferenco which was held on Wednesday between the colonial Agents-General and the Senior Naval Lord of the Admiralty was merely to ascertain how many torpedoes would bo required for the defence schome of each colony.

The several Agents-General and Sir Charles Tupper, High Commissioner for Canada, are urging upon the Government the exemption of colonial securities from stamp duty. The Colonial Institute are also urging upon the Government the necessity of granting more favorable concessions in regarl to the importation of colonial wines. Captain Brennan, of Victoria, the inventor of the torpedo bearing his name, has received a large amount from the English Government for his patent rights.

The race for the Manchester Cup was run to-day, and resulted in a win for Mr J. Jardiuo's oh c Borneo, Xema being second, and Cromaboo third.
