[Pen United Peess Association.] AUCKLAND, November '29. The Hon. Mr Swinston, the first AttorneyGeneral of tV.e Colony, is dangerously ill. Some time ago Mr M'Arthur, principal of the Training College, failed, and the Board of Education gave him six months' notice of dismissal. Yesterday a motion was earried rescinding the previous resolution, and aßking Mr M'A-thur to retain the position.

The hearing of the first charge against Waring Taylor was continued this morning. Mr Jonas Arundel, residuary legatee, in his evidence, said that hearing that something was wrong he came tap from Dunedin in company with Mr Donald Stuart, solicitor, on May 19. He called on the prisoner, who said he was very busy at the time, and promised to have an interview later on. As Mr Stuart and he were leaving the accused beckoned witness back and said: "I must ask your forbearanoe in this matter. The fact is I have quarrelled with my co-trustees in Rhodes's estate, who have jumped upon mc. I have consequently made use of shares belonging to the May trust to satisfy the Ithodeses." Accused gavn witness to understand that this had beon quite a recent transaction, but said nothing about having sold shares. Iu a Hubsequent interview he repeated the above statement iu presence of Mr Stuart. Accused was committed for trial, bail being allowed in two sureties of LI,OOO each, and bimn.-lf in LI,OOO. There are ten further oharges pending. OHRISTCHURCH, Novembeb 29. Sir John Hall received an enthusiastic reoeption on his return to Hororata yesterday, A congratulatory address was presented from residents. Sir John was driven home in a drag drawn by four white horseß.
