THE HARBOR BOARD.

The Harbor Boird met this afternoon; present—Messrs A, H. Bom (ohatrm&n), GargiU, Wales, J. B. Thomson, D. Keid, Mill, Barnes, Elder. Hislop, A. Thomson. Captain Duncan. Patrick Maloney wrote claiming damages for injury to his boat caused by the tog Koputai running Into It.— Referred to the Harbormaster, with power to act. . The British and New Zealand Mortgage and Agency Company wrote declining to pay the extra charge for towage of the Euterpe.—On the motion of Mr Elder it was resolved to lostruot the Board's solicitor to take steps to recover the amount.

On the recommendation of the Harbor-master Mr B. Matheson was appointed engineer to the s s. Plucky. A communication was received from the Chamber of Oommerco enclosing a resolution passed by that body strongly urging the Board to pubh on tho permanent works at the Heads, and at the same time to keep the big dredge at work on the bar until the works are completed. —On the motion of Mr Caboill it was resolved to forward to the Chamber ooples of the Board's provions resolutions on the matter, and also famish any further Information required. Mr J. K. With regard to the more rapid prosecution of the worki at the Heads, he would recommend that another locomotive be sent down at once. Twelve of the buckets of the big dredge have been recovered, and work was being continued with the others.—A long and rather aerimeniou* dhcusslon ensued as to the capacity of the dredge to do the work necessary to clear the bar. Ultimately the Engineer's recommendation was approved. A letter was received from the Union Steam ' Shipping Company re the Board's account fee dues on the s.t.
