New Zealand securities are quoted today as follows: Five per cent. 10-40 loan, 104 i ; 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 103£ ; 4$ per cent. 1879-1904 loan have fallen to 101£, and 4 per cent, inscribed stock to par. The markets for colonial produce are without quotable change. THE TONQUIN WAR CREDIT. PARIS, December 18. In the Chamber of Deputies to-day the additional war credit of: 20,000,000 francs for defraying the cost of the Tonquiu expedition was voted by a large majority. SERIOUS FIRE IN LISBON. LISBON, December 18. A serious fire occurred at the Royal Dockyard tp-day, and resulted in the destruction of one man-of-war lying in dock. A large amount of material was also consumed. THE GERMAN CROWN PRINCE AND THE POPE. ROME, December 18. The interview between Prince Frederick William of Germany and Hi 3 Holiness the Pope, at the Vatican to-day, lasted an hour. The interview was of a very cordial nature. The organ of the Catholic party refers to tho meeting in jubilant terms. His Imperial Highness leaves Rome on Thursday next. A DENIAL. LONDON, December 19. The police authorities deny that precautions have been taken to prevent a Fenian attack upon London Bridge or Newgate Gaol. It is, however, admitted that a strict watch against suspicious characters is kept at Hawarden Castle, and that the police guard at the Premier's seat has been strengthened, REPORTED FRENCH OCCUPATION OF SONTAY. The police precautions for guarding Hawarden, the Premier's seat, have been hastily renewed, and all the Irish quarters ip London are now closely watched. December 19. The New York dynamiters are incensed at the execution of O'Donnell, and threaten to murder a number of British officials. (Received December 20,1853, at 1.30 p.m.) The trials made with the armameut of the Victorian gunboat Child ers have satisfied the Admiralty authorities. The boat answered the tests splendidly. The Guilders, in company with the two other Victorian gunboats, the Albert and the Victoria, will sail for Melbourne on January 4. The scientific expedition to New Cuinea, under Mr Powell, will explore from the Ambernoli River to the Finisterre Mountains, and afterwards from Astrolabe Bay to Port Moresby.
