OITY POLICE COURT, (Before I. N, Watt, B*q., 8.M,) Drunkinnkss -~Thomaf Henry was fined Bs, in default forty-eight hours' lmprinotimeni .alleged Petty Larceny.— Thomas Pof.tr and Mary Porter, children, were charged with stealing a piece of timber of the value of Is, the property of William Allan of fct. Kilda —On the application of the informant the charge waß withdrawn. Stealing a Saddle - James Smith, charged with stealing on 01 about September 29, at St Clair, a saddle of the value of L 4, the of John Welß—Piisoner elected to be tried; bj jaiy if a prima facie oharge were made out The evidence showed that the saddle was ratseed from the hotel, and that on September 29 it was sold hy Wiight, Stephenson, ard 00. at prisoner's reqxnat. —lie w*h committed for trial.

He had kepi perfectly sober sinse the last Dunedin races, and was a very quiet man. The landlord of the hotel had no suspicion of him doing away with himt elf. Mrs Thomson (the landlady) saw the defendant with the Inifo produced in his hand, aid a quantity of blood about him. There were three punctured wound-; In his throat, and one on his wrist. He did not think the defendant wis iu a fit state to answer the charge, and therefore asked for a remand until tho 27th loßb., and In the meantime the defendant could h»ve medical treatment—The application of tha police was granted.
