West IlARiiOR.—At this Councils meeting the Finance Committee reported that the current liabilities were L-1,874, but in March they would bo increased to L 2.758, as LBB4 was then due to tho North-east Valley Borough. The Committee strongly recommended that tio frcoh Tt-oriio should be undertaken for two years.—lt was agroed to take tho Burk-n's road contract off tho hands of Mr Alexander M'Kenzie.— The following resolution, moved by Cr Blackib, was carried unanimously—" That this Council record a hearty vote of thanks to tho retiring Mayor (Mr M'Neil) for the efficient and straightforward manner in which he has acted while in office."

The Minister was unable, owing to the limitation of section 20 of the Aot, to entertain tho Council's application for a grant, of L7OO to repair the Water of Leith road. It was deoided to reply that the Council had not applied under section 20 of tho Act for repairs to the road in question. ■
