West IlARiiOR.—At this Councils meeting the Finance Committee reported that the current liabilities were L-1,874, but in March they would bo increased to L 2.758, as LBB4 was then due to tho North-east Valley Borough. The Committee strongly recommended that tio frcoh Tt-oriio should be undertaken for two years.—lt was agroed to take tho Burk-n's road contract off tho hands of Mr Alexander M'Kenzie.— The following resolution, moved by Cr Blackib, was carried unanimously—" That this Council record a hearty vote of thanks to tho retiring Mayor (Mr M'Neil) for the efficient and straightforward manner in which he has acted while in office."

ST. RiM>A.—This Council h.we decided to refer the drainage question to a meeting of the ratepayers, to be held next month.—The Chief Surveyor wiote, intinatingthat any survey that represented the actual position of the old pegs by which owners held their lines would bo passed by him. ■ It was decided to inform Mr Arthur that the proposed survey was In accordance with the old survey. Tho inspector reported that of la*o the cattle nuisance hid been on the iuarease, and twenty-four tioad had been impounded sinco his last report. The proposition to appoint a ranger waa 6Unported by twocotwcilldrs and opposed by a like number. The M»yok declined to vote, stating that ho would leave the matter In abeyance till tho next meeting; of tho Council. Tho inspector was instructed to impound _ cattle found wandering in tho Borough in tho meantime: Maori Him. This Council have appointed the Mayor and Cr Church to act as their delegates at tho Drainage Conference. Tho Under-Secretary for Works intimated that a grant for the rebuilding of the Woodhaugh bridge would be made under eections 31 and 85 of tho Roads and Bridges Construction Act, if the terms of that Act were complied with. The Minister was unable, owing to the limitation of section 20 of the Aot, to entertain tho Council's application for a grant, of L7OO to repair the Water of Leith road. It was deoided to reply that the Council had not applied under section 20 of tho Act for repairs to the road in question. ■
