West Harbor.—The election for Rothesay Ward resulted in the election of Mr A. A. Adams by a majority of nine over Captain Russell. —At a meeting of the Council last night the articles on borough matters, published by the Dunedin morning papers, were discussed, and it was decided to treat them with silent contempt, as unwarranted and untruthful.—Cr Adams was appointed to the Finance Committee; Cr Blackio to the Works Committee ; and Cr Bain to the Works Committee. The following resolution was passed unanimously:— "That this Council record their hearty thanks to Mr James Macandrew, member for the district, for the very prompt and judicious action taken by him in meeting the exigencies in connection with the recent difficulties in which the Borough had been involved, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr Macandrew." St. Kilda. —At this Council's meeting last night a letter was read from the Maori Hill Borough Council relative to the leasing of the various endowments of the suburban boroughs, and asking what was the intention of the Council in the matter. The Mayor stated that he had seen Mr Reid, who was dealing in the matter on behalf of the South Dunedin Council, and that he had been informed that if all the boroughs concerned could be induced to join and lease the endowments in one block, they would be able to get about Is 3d per acre, but that separately the endowments would not be worth the fencing. It was resolved that the Mayor be authorised to act in the matter.—A letter was read from Mr Stuart complaining of the condition of Dalgety street, and asking that a stone culvert be built over the ditch there ; whereupon the question of the Borough's financial position was discussed. Cr Gore pointed out that the bank overdraft already amounted to the sum of LI, 126. It was decided to adjourn the consideration of any requests from ratepayers for repairs of roads, etc., until the consideration by the Council of a proposal to levy a fresh rate for the purpose of reducing the bank overdraft.
