The jury also returned a verdict of “Guilty” against Mahuki and his followers for assault on Mr Anbin, storekeeper, and acquitted them on the charge of riot in Alexandra. The other charges were withdrawn by the Crown Prosecutor. Mahuiki and Tini were sentenced to twelve months’ hard labor; Puputahi and Ngawharo to nine months’; ana all the rest to six months’. Mahuiki said that the sentence was just, but God and Te Whiti had power to save him.
