THE AUSTRALIANS' TOUR

[Reuter's Telegbams.] "LONDON, July 10. The Australian cricketers commenced a match to-day against eleven of Marylebone Club at Lord's Ground. The following are the names of the English team:—Lord Harris, Messrs A. G. Steel, C. \T. Studd, G.| B. Studd, W. G. Grace, A. N. Hornby, A. P. Lucas, E. F. S. Tylccote, Barnes, Flowers, and Morley. The Home team went in first and had put together 113 for the loss of two wickets, when play was stopped owing to the rain. W. G. Grace was bowled for 46, and Hornby stumped for 45. . The greatest interest is being taken in the match. Writing from London on May 18, the usually well-informed correspondent of the 'Sydney Morning Herald' wrote in reference to this match:—" It is yet poaible that the Marylebone Club may give up their match on July 10,11, and 12, and obtain a representative eleven of England to play Australia at Lord ■ on these days. This is devoutly to be wished, as Murdoch has expreased the desire of the team that at least two matches against the picked strength of England should be arranged. On the days mentioned Yorkshire will be playing Surrey, aud Sussex Kent, so that Ulyett, Bates, Lockwood, and Peate, all "Tykes," might be wanted for the match at Sheffield. . . . . I have no doubt that the 'county of broad acres' would spare any representatives who might be chosen to play for England, and Lucas would be found in the ranks of the picked eleven."
